Chapter two

Peter Archer stood in his room glaring down at the reflection of his wet body in the mirror. Youd believe that there was an enemy in his room if you were permitted to see his face.

His muscles hadn bulged one bit, and he didn like that! His biceps and triceps were both flat against his bones.

Unlike most kids his age at school, he was frail and thin. He did exercise but there was nothing to show, well nothing aside from his flat belly.

But even his tummy didn do the magic trick. It was only flat, there were no abs and definitely no packs. It was flat. Just flat.

His eyes floated through to his hair in the mirror. That was the favourite part of his body.

They were shiny in a golden colour. He was blessed with hair that didn look like that of anybody that he knew.

A smile formed on his face when he pulled one of its strands. ”Wow, its longer! Cool! ”.

He did love the way his long hair fell to compliment his blue eyes. Yes, he had blue eyes just like his father.

”Peter! Get down here now, youll be late for school ”, Peters mother called out to him from somewhere in the house.

He was about to respond when she added the last part. The part that shell always add just to make him feel guilty.

”You won enjoy seeing Zamuel being punished along with you, or would you? ”.

”Ill be out in a jiffy ”. Peter was already running around trying to get some clothes on. He could bet, all he had, that she was smiling to herself, feeling accomplished.

He found a black sweat pants that were lying over his computer in the corner and an oversized sweater on his bed. Those would be the dress choice for the day.

Scenes from his dream flashed across his mind, but now wasn the time. He pushed them back and tried to focus on his dressing. Hell find time to talk about it to Zamuel after classes today.

When he was done, he looked into the mirror one last time before pulling his window blinds shut…

He dragged them back almost immediately.

Had he seen someone in the shadows of the house across?

Wasn the person staring straight up at him?

He could have sworn that he had seen some old man in a full white attire, but there was not a soul in sight now.

Peter let the curtains fall close back when he didn see anyone out there.

”Whats for food this morning, beautiful mother? ” Peter asked immediately as he shut his door behind him.

His eyes saw it before he heard it. There, on the dining table, was a whole grilled chicken sitting in vegetable sauce.

He looked at his mother, and the way her brown eyes looked back at him told him that something special was happening.

”Don you dare stare at the chicken like that. It isn for breakfast. Its dinner ”, she wiped her hands with a towel before continuing, ”get some rice here and then you can take up vegetable sauce, NO CHICKEN ”

She stressed heavily on the last two words. She knew how stubborn he could be sometimes.

Peter was already picking up his food when he asked, ”whats so special about this evening then? ”.

”Your father. Thats the special thing ”

Peter paused. His father was coming home? He didn know which emotion to show first.

Whether his surprise that his father was going to be home finally, or the point that the steamy chicken was going to wait till night time.

Like she read his mind, she nodded with her arms over her chest. ”Hell probably be home before you are back from school ”.

He swallowed what he was chewing on, and then he began to rant about all kinds of fun ideas that he and his father would have. It was going to be great.

”Oh. I miss him so much. Lots of things that well do together ” he was suddenly excited and pumped up, ” well go to the pack. See a movie too! Its gonna be epic! I mean… ”

Luana, his mother, had clearly had enough. ”Stop being so loud. Be done with your food and get going already, young man ”, she cut him off from speaking further.

”Don forget to pick your brains along when you
e done. Im off to getting ready for work ”. She finally said as she headed back towards her room.

”I ain that dumb, mom ”, Peter shot back at her, even though he knew that she only meant it as a joke.

His curiosity was at its apex. His father always brought something special along with him whenever he came around from service. This time, he couldn wait to see what it was.

His father, a person whom Peter was a complete younger version of, was only different in that he was very muscular. He had the kind of Dwayne Johnsons body.

Lucas had brown hair, a shade darker than Peters own, another difference.

Yes, Lucas was in the army and so he wasn usually home, but whenever he was, he made up for everything. Hed spend time with Peter, teaching him martial arts, and simple weapon handling for self defense.

Hed also create time to run down to school with Peter. He was really the best father in the whole world!

Taking a glance at the clock that hung on the wall, Peter gasped. He was going to be late.

He quickly stuffed the rest of whatever was left in his plate into his mouth. He grabbed his plate and dropped it in the sink. He knew that his mother would be mad but he wasn going to risk being punished at school. Nope!

He fastened the laces of his sneakers. ”Bye mum ”, he shouted as he hurried through to the sun.

”Have a great day. Stay out of harms way ”

But Peter was already running down the street, his footsteps echoing through the streets on that warm summer morning.
