Chapter eight

Zamuels eyes fluttered open. But he still remained motionless and quiet in the bed. His brain was booting slowly.

Slowly, his eyes began to take in details from the room. He didn recognize the bedspread and the bed itself seemed like a giant compared to his bed.

And the room, this wasn even a room from his house.

He sprang up in the bed. Where was he?!

Memories from the previous night came rushing into him, so fast that he fell into the bed again.

He remembered everything clearly now.

He had come into the living room after hearing strange noises when he was in his room. But then he was hit by a man when he was about to return to his room.

And that was the end.

No, that wasn the end. He felt like there was something that he was missing but no matter how hard he tried, what came after that was tabula rasa.

A door opened in the wall and on instinct, Zamuel shut his eyes close. He was trying his best to pretend like he was still asleep.

But he knew he had failed at his attempt when he heard the other person speak.

”Come on, I know that you
e awake. I only came to drop some food and clothes for you ”. The voice was a gentle feminine voice.

From the sound of it, she was standing just over him. He was tempted to open his eyes to see who it was, but that would be too much of a risk.

He didn stir, not at all. He maintained his pretense posture.

”Well, since you
e just going to keep mute and act like you
e asleep, Id be leaving. Take your bath, eat breakfast. Someone would be here to pick you soon. You have to join us outside ”.

She had said it like she was talking to her kid brother, and now, Zamuel listened as her footsteps faded away.

”Wait! ”, Zamuel commanded, jumping off his bed and into his feet. His stance showed that he was ready to dish out some self defense moves.

The girl paused and then turned on the point to look over at him.

Zamuels face softened as he stared at her. She was a child after all.

Not really a child. She was a lady, probably around his age.

She was in a white leathery jumpsuit, and yes, she was pretty.

She had long slender legs, same with her hair —except the slender— it was black and long. Her unstyled hair was reaching just a little bit above her waist belt. And her eyes, they were brown, the light shade of brown.

He was a bit ruffled when she spoke. ”Do you always stare at ladies like that? ”, She asked, folding her arms over her chest. One of her brows was slightly raised above the other, the perfect questioning expression.

She brushed up her look with a smirk.

” Uh. Yes… I mean, no ”, even he hated the way he sounded utterly confused and lost.

”You definitely didn call on me to stare at me, did you? What were you going to ask? ”

Shaking his head, he replied with a flat ”no ”.

With that settled, she turned and walked out of the door. It was still weird that the door fitted perfectly with the wall that it seemed not to be there when it was closed.

As he watched the door slowly come together, Zamuel exhaled, realizing that he had been holding down his breath since he started looking at her.

”Oh my God ”, Zamuel exclaimed. He had wanted to ask questions.

Where was he?

What was he doing here?

Who was she?

All he had managed to do was study her face.

He grabbed his head in distress. How could he be thinking about the beauty of a girl at a time like this? He didn even know where his parents were!

Rose felt a little bit of pity for the boy she had just left.

She couldn help wondering how he was going to react when her father and her grandfather explained to him what had happened.

That his parents had died. Well, at least for now, they were dead. Whether or whether not that would change depends on the outcome of their mission.

Standing just outside his door, she heard him scream ”oh my God ” before going silent again.

She did want to go back in, but no. Hed be fine. Hell find his way around.

She brought out a small circular device from the pocket of her uniform, flicked it over a couple times and then pressed down on the only button on it.

She was suddenly in her grandfathers office.

Just as she had expected, there were different books all around him where he sat. Most of those books were materials on time travel.

”You shouldn use the teleporter to get into my office, Rose. You should learn to knock ”, her grandpa said, turning around in his seat to face her.

”Im sorry, gramps. I promise that I am ”. She was flashing her killer smile, the same one that she knew was capable of calming down her grandfather.

She just couldn resist the urge to continue spooking him.

He turned back to his computer and began punching away at the keys.

Watching his back, Rose could tell that the current mission was taking its own dose of sanity from him. He looked like a finished man.

Even his pepper and salt hair was not combed.

”So gramps, what would we do about the kids? Whats the next step ”, she asked as she sank into the empty seat beside him.

”The plan is to explain. Wed explain everything to them. Zamuel might be mad, but well let him know that it is still possible to save his parents and the rest of humanity ”.

He paused to adjust his glasses, ”if we had spent as much as an extra minute, wed already be walking the streets with a dead and non-functional brain.

Rose nodded. She found it funny that these two boys who happened to be best friends were the best match to save the world from Dr. Marks zombie disease outbreak.

Though she had seen Zamuel, she was still nervous about meeting the other guy.

She had to get herself under control, at least till the mission was completed.

Besides, she wasn from this time, so she couldn risk developing feelings for any of them.

All that mattered to her here was her mother.
