Chapter 80 – Aiming for B rank

It’s the next day after we have clarified the conditions for obtaining manastones.

We are going to the adventurer’s guild in the Royal Capital today, to gather the information we require.

[Let’s get going then.]

[Feels like it’s been a long time since we’ve been to the Royal Capital.]

[It sort of feels more nostalgic than when we came back to Brunné.]

[Shisuha are you sure about staying behind?]

[Yes.
It’d be sad for Luna-san to be alone when she wakes up.
I’ll be doing the chores as I wait.]

That means I’ll be going to the Royal Capital with Noru and Estel today.

Shisuha spoke about staying behind, when we were preparing to leave.

Luna was obviously still asleep as she’s our almighty home security…… Though it’s true that she might be lonely if nobody’s around when she wakes up.

Thinking so, I accepted Shisuha’s proposal.

I don’t know Luna’s opinion about this, but I do think it’s better for there to be more than 1 person at home at times like this.

And I can summon them anytime with the Beacon if the need arises, so there’s no need for all of us to move around together all the time.

She said she’ll be doing the chores too, I’m thankful for that.

[Thanks again.
I’ll be leaving the house and Luna in your care.]

[Yes, leave it to me.]

[You better not do any weird things to Luna just because we’re not here, okay?]

[I, I won’t do any such thing! Just what do you all take me for!]

[You don’t sound trustworthy at all, considering your usual antics…]

Estel and Noru left warnings for Shisuha, from which she angrily retorted back with her fists clenched.

If you have seen what Shisuha does when Luna is involved, their worries are understandable.
I too am a little worried about leaving the 2 of them (Shisuha and Luna) together.

Though, Luna herself has proven she is more than capable of repelling Shisuha, so I don’t think there will be any problems.

=====

We traveled via Beacon and arrived at the Royal Capital in no time.
The Beacons are oh so convenient.

Once we accomplish my grand scheme of automated manastone farmers, I would want to set the Beacons up everywhere.

The one we have now is set up discreetly outside of Suting.
I’d like to buy a house in the Royal Capital one day so I can travel to the inside directly.

[Hello, it’s been a while.]

[Ah, Okura-san.
Glad to see you again.]

We went to the Adventurer’s Guild, and went on over to Wizzy-chan’s counter.

Whew, feels like it’s been forever.
I haven’t seen her since we went to Brunné to buy a house.

It feels like we haven’t come to the Royal Capital for a long while.

[Onee-san how has life been.]

[We’ll be in your care again.]

[Estel-san and Noru-san, it’s been some time, yes…..
Mmm? I don’t see Shisuha-san with you guys.]

[Ahー, she has other things to do today.]

[I see.
I wanted to greet Shisuha-san too… But, I’m glad that your party is doing well Okura-san.]

Wizzy-chan happily exchanged greetings with Noru and Estel.

Typically I’m the one who talks to her (Wizzy), so seeing her having a conversation with the girls feels like a rare event.

[So did you guys manage to buy a house in Brunné?]

[Yes.
Then a bunch of stuff happened from there…..
We couldn’t return to the Royal Capital for a while.]

[Well, buying a house is a big event.
Uuu, I’m so envious that you guys are now home owners…]

The house buying thing went so smoothly it didn’t leave much of an impression on me, but it’s true that buying a house is a big event.

Plus I only just thought of wanting another house in the capital, this makes me feel like my senses have been numbed due to what happened.

[So, what kind of business do you have this time?]

[Uーmm, I have a couple of questions to ask… Are you available right now?]

[I’m available, yes.
If your query is something I know of, then I’ll answer to the best of my abilities.]

There’s 3 things I want to ask at the Guild this time, about the existence of demi-humans, about Magic Gear and about making Groups.

Information regarding demi-humans will help me with my decision to register Luna with the Adventurer’s guild or not…..
Not like Luna herself is going to make this process any easier.

[Aight, are there demi-humans in this wor…? I mean country.]

[Yes? Demi-humans…?]

[Ah, eーrm…..
People that have beast ears, people who suck blood… Beastman or Vampires.
People that have long thin ears… that kind of stuff, yes.]

Whew, that was close… I almost said “in this world” casually as if I was talking to Noru.

Wizzy-chan tilted her head at the word “demi-human”, so I rephrased in detail.

Is that term not used in this world, or do they not even exist?

For now I want to know if beastman, vampires or elves are a thing.

[…..Hmm.
I haven’t heard of anything regarding such people recently.
Though, there have been entities referred to as Majin in the past, I heard that they had characteristics similar to what you have described…]

Wizzy-chan gave her answer, after thinking for a moment.

Muu… So, it’s a “they don’t exist currently” case.
There are many things in this world that are similar to GC’s setting, so I thought that they might exist here too but…

So they existed in the past apparently.
Majin had the setting of being monsters that are intelligent in GC, could this be that?

Mmmー, I really don’t want GC Majin characters to appear…

[So you mean there are no Majin now?]

[Yes.
They have been said to have strong bodies, and their ability to manipulate magic meant they had excellent combat prowess.
However it is said that they died out in a conflict 200 years ago, due to their aggressive nature despite their low numbers.]

[So that’s what happened…..]

Majin in GC appeared as raid bosses, and were pretty strong.
It’s kind of a relief to know they’re gone.

200 years ago, huh…..
That’s quite a long time ago.

For the time being, I suppose it’s best to keep the stuff regarding Luna under wraps.

[Okay then, next please teach me what you know about Magic Gear.]

[Huh? Even though you have Estel-san with you, you don’t know about Magic Gear?]

I asked about Magic Gear, but Wizzy-chan replied with a question along with a puzzled expression.

Dang… It would be nice if she let that slide, but things don’t always go that easily.

Well then what should I do… I did think of an excuse beforehand, but will it work?

[Aーh, it’s that…..]

[I don’t know what it’s called in the Royal Capital.
That’s why I thought it would be nice if Onee-san could teach us… Or can you not?]

[N, no, of course I can!]

When I tried to make my excuse, Estel spoke out to Wizzy-chan first.

With her small stature, Estel adorably appealed to her, from which Wizzy-chan panicked as she shook her hands.

…..Umu.
That’s easily more effective than my would be lame excuse.

[Ahem…..
Magic Gear, as the name implies, are all kinds of equipment and tools that are made by Mages.
They are typically made from monster materials and magic gemstones.
Okura-san’s necklace is a magic gemstone too… That’s rainbow colored!? It’s the first time I’ve seen a magic gemstone with that kind of color…]

[Fufufu, I made that for Onii-san.]

[A, as expected of someone from Okura-san’s party…]

Wizzy-chan had a face of seeing something unbelievable when she saw my necklace.
Seeing that, Estel smiled happily.

So this really is something abnormal… I expected no less from Estel.

[I didn’t see many of them in the Royal Capital, where are they sold at?]

[Even the cheapest Magic Gear costs at least 500,000G.
They are typically sold in shops of prosperous regions where the rich visit often.]

[So, they’re expensive…..]

[They are just that convenient.
The Adventurer’s Guild too, is making use of custom-made Magic Gear.
There are those that increase the user’s physical ability, some that let the user use the magic inscribed in them, but they are all highly sought after and don’t make it into the markets easily.]

The lowest reference price she gave was 500,000 G.

Ugeh…..
We may be earning decent income from our activities, it’s still shocking to hear that price.
If that’s the lowest, how many tens of thousands of G are we talking about for the highest.

That explains why Grin-san didn’t want to accept my gift.
I get the feeling I can rake in the big bucks if I sell the Gacha equipment…..
I won’t though.

[Lastly, is it okay for us adventurers to form Groups? I mean on a scale that is larger than the standard Party size.]

[A Group huh.
The Adventurer Guild doesn’t particularly prohibit it.
However, there is something you need to be aware of.]

Ooh, that’s good.
Forming Groups isn’t prohibited.

So, what’s the catch…..

[If disputes arise within the Group, you will have to resolve the issue amongst yourselves.
Though if the matter gets out of hand… Then we (the guild) will do our best to help you.]

Fumu… I see.
It’ll be a gathering created between us adventurers, so having the Guild solve the problems generated among ourselves is barking up the wrong tree, that kinda thing?

But they’ll still help if shit really hits the fan, that’s nice of them in my books.

[Got it.
Thanks for the information.]

[Oh no, I’m glad I was able to be of service.
Will that be all that you are here for today?]

That’s all I want to ask for now.
But, I didn’t come here to only ask some questions today.

I have 1 more objective here today, besides getting answers to my queries.

[Ah, there is 1 more thing… I’ve been thinking it’s time we accepted the request to be promoted to B rank… So are we eligible?]

The last objective today was to accept the request for our B rank promotion, besides getting some much needed information.

I thought it would go smoothly much like that time with our C rank promotion, but when Wizzy-chan heard my inquiry, she furrowed her eyebrows and had a troubled expression.

Oh…is that a no?

[….
The thing is, there’s actually something I need to speak about with you regarding that.]

Wizzy-chan continued with a serious tone.

Seeing her reaction, I even had a slight buttclench moment, considering how casual I typically am.

[In order to be promoted to B rank, you need the recommendation of either the Guild’s President or a Branch Chief, your eligibility will then be judged based on the requests you have completed.]

….A recommendation and judgment based on past records? Ah, this might be bad.

We’ve mostly only been freely hunting whatever stuff we run into then exchanging the proofs of subjugation for money, we haven’t done much in terms of requests.

This means we need to be deemed trustworthy by the Guild to be promoted to B rank…..
But, we did participate in a Prime Subjugation, maybe that’s enough?

[Okura-san’s party has resolved a Prime Subjugation, so your combat abilities have been judged to be above B rank standards by the Guild.
A recommendation from the Guild’s President is practically within reach.
But, due to the fact that your party has mostly only done subjugation requests, there are opinions that question your motivations…..]

So we already pass with flying colors in terms of ability, it’s our track record which is questionable as I expected.

Dhius’ party seems to have done lots of escort requests and other kinds of requests…..
Does this mean we have to do a bunch of other requests too?

Hurrrr…..
My ambitions of automated manastone gathering are slipping out of my fingers…..

[Does that mean we have to complete more requests and accumulate achievements?]

[Well, it was going in that direction initially, but the Guild has decided that your party only needs to accept a certain request after much debate.]

[A certain request…..
Huh.]

Ooh, here I was being pessimistic about the delay, but it seems that’s not the case.

It’s lucky that we only have to accept 1 request.
I would like to thank the people who made that decision.

It’s great that we can jump past the slog of accumulating achievements so simply…..
But, that just means the request we need to accept must be dangerous.

[Yes.
The request is…to investigate the Angori Ruins.]
