THE ROMANS

When the recruits were on the other side of the gate, they saw the base had other security systems installed.

Behind the high fence were a series of retractable outpost towers to the left and right of the gate. The towers could go higher than the fence and go lower to rest on ground level.

At the moment, the top of the tower was resting on the ground. The towers tops were mounted with machine guns. The guns made use of an energy source to make bullets and power the shots when the triggers were pulled. Their muzzles holes were as big as a tanks muzzle.

Kyle saw more than thirty tanks parked at various spots around the base. A careful look shows that the tanks were parked in a formation. The tanks gave him and the others intimidating chills. It seemed as if the tanks, the non-living machines, didn welcome them.

Bzzt, Bzzt! The recruits saw six drones patrolling the base from two hundred yards above. They saw a variety of weapons and machines.

Every machine and weapon they saw made them feel terrified. A recruit beside Kyle broke down and cried. Kyle wanted to do the same, but he resisted the urge.

They had yet to see another human being after meeting with the Roman at the gate. Then, they heard matching footsteps come from behind a building. The base was abundant with bungalow buildings.

Six Romans matched out from behind a building to get a better look at Kyle and his friends.

The recruits all broke down and cried, except Kyle. His face was very red, with the veins of his face popping up because he resisted the intensified urge to cry. The Romans they saw looked so intimidating to them. The Romans boarded a marauder vehicle and drove off.

”That vehicle they drove off with is as intimidating as them, ” cried one of the recruits.

”Everything here seems to look down on us, ” cried another.

Another yelled, ”I think everyone and everything here hates us. I want to go home! ”

Kyles eyes were misty. Goo was leaking from his nostrils. He cursed silently at the situation he was in.

The recruits heard laughter coming from a building. They looked towards the building. The building had a very wide front door. It was an overhead door, and it was open. There were hundreds of other recruits and a few Romans watching Kyle and his comrades act silly.

The few Romans, five in total, in the building walked out to Kyle and co.

A Roman said to Kyle, ”don be afraid. ”

The same thing was said to the other recruits with him by the other Romans. Instantly, they were calmed. They didn feel intimidated again. The Romans walked the six recruits into the building where they came from.

The quarry that Sand gave Kyle and his friends was being taken away to another place by one of the Romans.

Another Roman said to Kyle and his friends, ”your quarry will be served to you for breakfast tomorrow. ”

Kyle and co. were inside the building. He saw the building was labelled R66. He also observed that the other recruits who were in the building before them. Some of them, there faces were red and some had swollen eyes while the rest had a combination of both. He guessed they too felt the intimidation from the base before the Romans calmed them.

The recruits all got into an elevator at once. The Romans were also with them. The building had other stories underground. The car took them underground. Soon, they saw a very wide room after passing layers of boring soil. The room was segmented into three segments by two transparent glass floors.

The car stopped on the last floor.

”Rest for now. Tomorrow the project starts for you all, ” said one of the Romans.

The recruits left the car.

”And please, don be stupid. The punishments can be wicked, ” added the Roman.

The Romans left with the car.

The segment where the recruits dropped was their bedroom segment. One of them claimed that the upper segments were where they were monitored and where their training would happen.

Kyle learnt a lot after they had all settled. The United Nations claimed that they didn deceive people to join the Roman mission. And that they were completely honest with the nature of the mission.

The United Nations, on the other hand, had discovered a slew of uninhabited populated islands in the Atlantic.The islands didn have technological advancements. They were in the Bronze Age. The discovery of those islands was kept secret from the public.

The recruiting agents deceived the ignorant island people. They would give the islanders technological tools, and in exchange, the islanders would give their fittest sons and daughters to the recruiters.

The recruiters lied to the islanders that their sons and daughters were going to have a glimpse of the sweet outside world and that their children would surely return to them.

But their children ended up going to the Roman mission. And there was the possibility that all their children would die in False Heaven. Currently, some of them are already dead.

”Governments worldwide are disappointments, ” Kyle said to a recruit who narrated to him how she was manipulated to join the Roman mission. She was one of the ignorant island people.

It was soon after 8:30 pm and the recruits did as ordered. They went to bed.

Next day, It was 7:00 in the morning. False Heaven and Earth shared the same time.Three Romans came to the recruits floor. The recruits were already up and ready for the day. The Romans were going to be their tour guide.

The recruits took them round the base, helping them understand the equipment and facilities in the base.

The recruits and their guides were still walking through the base.

”The intimidating feeling you all felt when you arrived here was because you haven evolved your bodies. Your bodies are still ordinary, ” said a Roman soldier.

”Your bodies being ordinary is not good. You all will be vulnerable to all the dangers in this world. You have to fight to level quickly to the top status, the Roman status, ” said another Roman soldier.

”Excuse me, I have a question, ” said a recruit.

The Romans looked the other way at the recruit. One of the Romans nodded at the recruit.

The recruit said, ”Yesterday, some of you guys spoke to us and the intimidating feeling we felt disappeared. How did you guys do it? ”

”As I said before, your unevolved bodies are vulnerable to almost anything in this world. And that was why we could calm you guys down with our words. Hurry up and level up so that you can fight danger. ”
