THE ROMANS

The team stopped at their first checkpoint: the long range shooting site.

The long shooters had long-range RPG arms. From that point, the chickens territory was a hundred kilometres away. Twelve people comprised the long range shooters team.

The rest of the team left for another point on all four marauder vehicles.

Soon the team reached the second mark. It was 60 km away from the chickens territory. They came down from their transport and planted the mines on the ground. After that, the second group in the team advanced towards the chickens territory.

The fourth group took three different positions around the mine studded area. The positions were at least four kilometres away.

The second group had only one vehicle assigned to them. There were ten team members in the vehicle. They were a few kilometres away from the chickens territory when their vehicle got stuck in quicksand.

They sank at a slow, steady pace. The team members panicked and made movements that rocked the vehicle.

One of the members yelled, ”Everyone stop moving! Our movements shake the van and cause us to sink faster! ”

The members were calm.

The latter activated their comm. device and contacted Kyle. Kyle was in the fourth group. Kyle was told of the situation. He told the fourth team to remain calm and that help was on the way.

A marauder vehicle from the fourth group was sent to rescue the situation.

Over in the third group, they heard a very loud predatory screech. Moments of nervous silence kicked in. The members of the third group were all nervous and scared. They hoped it wasn what they thought it was.

Wak! Smak! Krak! The third group was tossed around their vehicle as a result of impact. Some of the members died and exited the simulation. Only three members were left alive. They were heavily injured.

One of the third group members managed to contact Kyle and update him on the situation.

Kyle was forced to change plans. He took the rest of the fourth group and charged over to the third group. The long rangers could not engage the chicken because they were too far. Their farthest range was 40 km.

The chicken had the third groups vehicle in its beak. It was crushing the vehicle. The vehicle was crumbling slowly. The people inside couldn escape, and they screamed in fright.

One of them took a knife and killed herself. She exited the simulation.

Within minutes, the entire might of the fourth group was on the chicken. Their marauder was wide enough, so five people could comfortably pop out from the roof and fire RPGs at the same time.

The chicken was hit with rockets and the explosion knocked out the vehicle in its beak.

The chicken was enraged. It chased a marauder and squashed it under its foot.

Kyle and his squad gasp in horror. Kyle instructed the other van to keep the chicken busy.

Kyle descended from the vehicle and went to rescue the survivors of the third group.

The V.R.s A.I. included whatever evolutionary trait one had to the simulation. Kyle had his evolutionary amplified strength in the simulation. He easily tore open a part of the van. He carried away one of the survivors to the van he was in. He came back and took away the second person.

Kyles vehicle drove off to the chicken. Kyle instructed the people on his vehicles roof to engage the chicken. He still wanted the chicken to be lured into their trap.

Kyles van members engaged the chicken with a more aggressive assault. The chicken chased after his vehicle. His vehicle drove at top speed towards the mine studded area.

He instructed the other vehicle to come towards the trapping area, but they should try not to get the chickens attention.

The driver of Kyles vehicle used to be a professional race car driver. And the driver was highly rated when active in the profession. When at the boundary of the mines area, the driver would drift away from another direction. They counted on the chickens momentum to launch the chicken into the mines area.

Unfortunately for Kyle and his gang, they entered a ditch which caused their vehicle to flip over and roll across the ground.

Kyle was disorganised but managed to recover his thinking. He could hear the groans of injured teammates. He could see outside the window the corpses of unlucky teammates. The chicken was gobbling the corpses.

He clicked his comm. channels open and yelled, ”Long range squad engage target! ” His system visually fed him info. It showed him he was forty-eight kilometres from the long range squad. ”Target is exactly forty-eight kilometres away! ”He added.

His scream attracted the chickens attention. The chicken screeched angrily at him and came for him.

But before the predator could get to Kyle, it was blown away by high-impact rockets. The rockets from long-range RPGs were designed to have a high impact on detonation. The rockets came relentlessly.

After three minutes, the attack on the chicken would cease for the shooters to reload. Kyle got out of the truck. He tried to lift the vehicle into its correct position. He slowly but steadily muscled the vehicle to the correct position.

He shoved the injured bodies in the drivers seat to the back. He drove off from the scene at top speed. He didn drive far. He just put himself a kilometre away from the chicken.

He climbed to the roof and grabbed a bazooka. The bazooka had a chamber that took four missiles. He checked the arm and it was fully loaded.

He opened the comm. channels and said, ”Team leader to Long Range Squad. ” Cease fire after reloading. But watch the situation. I will try to lure the target to the trap. ”

A minute later, the attack on the chicken ceased. The predator was gasping. It caught its breath. It used its little dinosaur arms to touch its head. The attack left a cut that bled on its head.

The injury incurred vexed the chicken. It trashed around the sandy terrain in anger. A rocket hit and exploded on its head, adding to its rage. It screeched at its highest tone and looked in the direction the missile came from. It saw Kyle aiming a bazooka muzzle at it.

BOOM! Kyle shot another missile at it.
