Harvest

—————-

After harvesting the Forest Radish, I was a little late but it was time for breakfast.
I was wondering how to make grated daikon radish, but then I remembered the existence of a tool called “oni-oroshi” (demon grater) and quickly made a makeshift one with bamboo.

The size of the jagged edges and the processing were not very good, and sometimes the teeth of the bamboo got out of alignment, but I think it was within an acceptable range.

“Heh.
You’re cutting the Forest Radish into such small pieces.
Is it delicious?” Slyphy asked curiously.
I wondered if there was no grated daikon in this world.
My knowledge of cheats might come in handy…I couldn’t be sure if making oni-oroshi would be profitable.

“It goes really well with fish, but they don’t make it in this world, right? How do you eat it here?”

“Basically, it’s used as a soup ingredient.
Sometimes it’s used in salads too.”

Indeed, daikon radish goes well with soups.
I want to eat a simmered dish…but it’s too hot here, so maybe something spicy like oden would be a bit much?

“Soup is also delicious, but you should try eating the grated one too.”

“I’m skeptical that it will make that much of a difference, but it sounds interesting.
I’m looking forward to it.”

I love grated daikon radish, but I wonder if it will be accepted by the spirits of this otherworldly realm.

“I hope it lives up to your expectations…I’m starting to get a little nervous.
Don’t be angry if it’s disappointing.”

“I won’t be angry about something like that.”

The bar is lowered.
Let’s make a daikon salad.
Cut it into thin strips and marinate it in salt.
It’s just an easy salad mixed with wakame seaweed.
I want some ponzu sauce.

—-

“It’s done! Everyone, come and eat!”

As usual, we accompany the grilled fish with the daikon radish drained of its water, and add a sprinkle of soy sauce.
Soy sauce is precious, but it’s okay to use it today.

It’s a harvest, so the great spirits also join us for breakfast.
Including me, there were nine of us.
The number of people has increased somehow.
I had doubts about whether to count Rain and Tamamo as humans, but since we can communicate, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Everyone sat down at the table and showed great interest in the grated daikon radish covered in brown liquid.
The great spirits are happy to try new things they haven’t eaten before.

Since no one else is starting, I’ll lead by example and eat first.
I chose a fish with a lot of fat to go with the daikon radish.
It should definitely be a perfect match.
I put the daikon radish on top of the shredded fish and take a bite, mixing the fish fat, daikon radish, and soy sauce, creating a refreshing taste.
Daikon radish and soy sauce can be dangerous.
A feeling of nostalgia that I had suppressed in the depths of my heart for not being able to return to Japan starts to overflow.

“Wow.
Yuuta, this is delicious.
The combination of finely grated Forest Radish and brown liquid creates a mysteriously delicious taste,” Slyphy remarks curiously.

“Yuuta-san, delicious,” Dolly agrees.

“Hmm.
This is quite tasty.
It’s a fresh surprise that vegetable puree goes well with fish,” says Nomos.

The combination of daikon radish and fish was well received by the spirits, but the daikon and wakame salad did not suit the taste of the lower-ranked spirits.

Bell and Turu, who tried a bite, made cute faces and wrinkled their noses.
If I were a better cook, I could have made it taste good, but unfortunately, I relied on the internet for cooking.
I tried making various dishes, but couldn’t apply the recipes well.

Well, it’s a good thing I didn’t put too much on their plates, considering the possibility that they might not like it.
I’ll eat the leftovers that Bell and the others left behind.
The crunchy texture of the daikon and the flavor of the seaweed make it delicious, but I guess it’s not a taste that children like.

——

“Yuuta, I’m looking forward to tonight,” says Nomos.

“Yuuta-chan, I’m really looking forward to it too,” adds Dyne.

“Thank you for letting me join in as well,” says Dolly.

Nomos, Dyne, and Dolly received Slyphy’s message and leave, looking forward to the night’s drinking party.

Come to think of it, what do the Great Spirits usually do? Slyphy is almost always with me, but I have no idea what the other three are doing.
They disappear occasionally and reappear just as suddenly.
It’s a strange feeling.

…I have a feeling that Dyne is just sleeping, but she’s a Great Spirit, so that’s probably not the case.
I can’t figure it out, so maybe I’ll work on expanding the base.

After breakfast, I called Bell and the others, who were playing and getting all tangled up, to come and help me.
They all responded obediently, reminding me of my own childhood and making me feel a little guilty.

I was the type of child who always tried to escape from helping out, so… I’m sorry, mom and dad.
I’ll apologize to the heavens.
Well, my parents should be doing well in Japan, but I’m sure they’re worried about me.

I don’t know why, but tasting soy sauce after a long time made me think of Japan.
It’s inevitable that I feel blue just by thinking about it.
I’ll change my mood by moving my body.

Bell, Rain, and Tamamo are taking care of the plants in the forest planned area, and I’m helping Turu with the development work.
I dig the ground with a magic shovel and repeat storage.
Today, I’ll work hard to develop two blocks.
If I work hard, even the alcohol will taste good.

——

As planned, I finished developing two blocks and had dinner.
It’s been a while since I’ve had alcohol, so I’m feeling excited.
Bell and the others are not participating, so it’s also the first adult time in a while.
I feel like skipping.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.
Can we start now?”

“Yeah.
We’ve been waiting.
Go ahead and start already.”

Nomo’s mood seems to be very good.
Does he really enjoy alcohol from another world?

“Onee-chan has been waiting since yesterday, too.
She’s tired of waiting.”

…Is that a joke? Should I apologize for being late?

“Oh, okay.
Let’s start then.
But there are only two bottles of alcohol, and the amount is not that much, so go easy on me.”

Saying that, I first pour my favorite Japanese sake and serve cheese and mixed nuts as snacks.
It may be simple, but it’s a feast for me.

“Hmm.
This is a beautiful vessel.
Is it made of glass?”

“Huh? Yeah, it’s a glass bottle.”

Nomos is intrigued by the sake bottle.
There’s glass here.
I definitely want to get a glass cup.

“Nomos.
Is glass easy to come by? I want a glass cup.”

“Well, glass is rare and hard to come by.
But if you make a contract with me, I can make glass for you quickly.”

… Glass is made from sand and such, right? It’s within Nomo’s territory.
I feel like glass has a fiery atmosphere.

“Can you make a glass cup?”

“Make a cup out of glass? It’s fragile, you know?”

“In my world, glass is used for cups and bottles, like this sake.
It doesn’t add any unwanted smells or tastes to food and drink.”

“I see.
It’s easy to mold into the shape of a cup, so I don’t mind.”

“Oh, that’s a relief.”

It seems like I can get quite a few glass products.
Can I also ask for pottery? No, if I mass-produce glassware and sell it, I could make a lot of money!

“Yuuta, let’s drink instead of talking.
I’m tired of waiting,” says Dyne.

“Oh, sorry Dyne.
I’ll finish preparing right away.”

I apologize to Dyne, who’s urging me to hurry up, and I bring out wooden cups for everyone.
The cups might smell like wood, but it can’t be helped since there’s nothing else.
With a bit of disappointment, I pour Japanese sake into each cup.

“Alright.
Everyone, thank you for taking care of various things.
Cheers!”

We clink our glasses and I take a sip of the long-awaited Japanese sake, savoring the beloved aroma passing through my nostrils.
I was supposed to be lazing around while drinking this, but… my Golden Week has turned out to be completely different from what I had planned.

“Oh, this is nice.
It has a delicate and sweet fruity aroma.
The taste is refreshing and goes down smoothly.
But this sake is quite strong in alcohol content, isn’t it?”

…Whoa, Slyphy-san.
Are you a gourmet critic or something? I can only tell if something smells good or tastes good…

“Ah, it’s weaker than the sake I’m planning to serve next, but it still has a decent amount of alcohol content.”

“I see.
It has more alcohol content than ale and is less rough in taste.
It’s very delicious,” Slyphy remarked.

Is Slyphy the type to be particular about the taste? That’s why she won’t accompany me in just eating grilled seafood and rice.

“Yuta-chan, this is delicious,” said Dyne, smiling brightly for some reason.
I like sake, but I’m not so sensitive to delicate flavors like her.
I’m glad Dyne just enjoys it simply.

“If you like it, that’s good to hear.
Sake from my hometown is made with an emphasis on water, so I’m proud if it pleases the Water Great Spirit,” I explained.

“I see.
So the sake is made with water in mind.
Then it must also have the taste of the water from another world.
That’s wonderful,” Dyne said.

I don’t really know the taste of water, but I wonder what happened to Nomos and Dolly? I turned to Nomos and saw that Slyphy and Dolly were engrossed in discussing the taste of the sake.

Words like “the aroma of grains” and “the balance” were flying around.
I’m glad they’re seriously enjoying the sake, but I wish they could drink it a little more casually.

However, even the pretty girl Dolly likes alcohol.
While her refined atmosphere remains unchanged, she is firmly enjoying the sake and discussing it.
Surprising.

“Yuta-chan, the cheese is also delicious.
It has more richness than the ones in this world, and it’s wonderful,” Dyne added.

Dyne seemed to be enjoying the snacks as well, her gentle smile soothing to the eyes.
Wait, I just heard something good.

“Dyne, does this world also have cheese?” I asked.

“Yes, it does,” she replied.

Great.
As someone who loves cheese, this is good news.
Having familiar ingredients makes life easier, and she mentioned ale, which is a type of beer.
That means I can enjoy beer too.
Surprisingly, this world may be more livable in terms of food.

“Come to think of it, Dyne, can you chill water or make ice?” I asked.

“Hmm, I can do that.
Making ice is a little different, but it’s a piece of cake for me as the Great Water Spirit,” she replied, looking proud.

If she can make ice, it’s not a problem.
I can enjoy whiskey on the rocks.
But if I ask her to make ice here, I’ll probably run into some restrictions.

It’s a hassle, but I’ll have to do some clumsy acting later.
If I asked Rain, it would be quicker, but she said that her domain is a little different, so it might be difficult.

Slyphy and Nomos are still discussing the taste of the sake, but their pace hasn’t slowed down.
Dyne and I are just drinking normally.
We’re running out of sake soon.

I’m planning to serve whiskey next, but everyone except me doesn’t seem to give off any signs of being drunk.
It seems like we don’t have enough alcohol.

“Dyne, are there similar things to these beans in this world?” I asked.

“Hmm, let me see.
Onee-chan has eaten these, these, and these before,” she replied.

Oh, they have almonds, peanuts, and walnuts here.
It seems like there are many similar plants after all.
I’ll have her try some rice later.
If we could get rice, it would shed light on my life in this other world.

“Come to think of it, Dyne, you said you were going to change the conditions for our contract.
Is it settled? I’m leaving tomorrow morning,” I asked.

Dyne suddenly stopped moving.
…She definitely forgot.
