It all felt like a dream. I mean- Reincarnation?

I wasn quite religious so I thought it was a concept only existing in games and novels. And sometimes I had wished it was true, not knowing that it was already true.

If one of my friends had asked me about it a few weeks ago, I would have laughed it off and said, ”Pffft~ Reincarnation? Cmon dude, you seriously believe that pile of gibberish? ”

The problem was, I was now starting to believe that pile of gibberish myself.

Before I knew it, I was suddenly reincarnated into a wealthy family in a fantasy world, with an affinity for magic stronger than others. Okay, fine. My magic aptitude was just a few points higher than average. But that didn stop me from thinking that I was something special.

With my superior knowledge of my past life, I was a lot smarter than anyone else my age. I had already learned magic and advanced mathematics at the age of two, which were actually just middle-school level arithmetic (Its strange how fantasy worlds are always so amazing in every other aspect but never talk about mathematics).

Due to my memories being intact, I grew a lot faster than other kids. People saw me as a magical prodigy, blessed by fate. By the time I was 6, I had already learned the basics of swordsmanship. I was already a bit experienced from fighting off Vick and his cronies a lot in my past life so it was a breeze.

And in another year, I was already hunting beast monsters on my own. Hunting beast monsters were actually prohibited until you were an adventurer or over 17. But I still did it anyway. I guess I still had my rebellious personality.

However, the unfamiliar language took longer to understand since I was already used to a different language, so I had trouble speaking until 9. It was mostly writing that looked like runic symbols and words that sound incredibly cool- until you understand what the words really mean. And then you start to wonder why you ever thought it was cool in the first place.

I made a few friends during that time: Geltrut, Selio, and Nyla. My life was pretty good up to that point. I was already thought of as a prodigy and I was about to enroll in a prestigious magic academy where I would be able to show off my overpowered abilities. I would then probably meet the heroine, go on an epic adventure against the forces of evil, and defeat the villain.

But I didn .

(Third Person POV)

A young 12 year old boy wandered around in the woods looking carefully at his surroundings. Though this sounded suspicious and he mightve seemed lost, he wasn quite in any real danger. He was merely playing a game of hide-and-seek with his friends like usual- or as the inhabitants of this world called it: ”Catch the bandits ”. Quite a harsh name for a kids game.

Should I use location magic? He wondered loudly to himself. But that would be cheating… Eh, they won know anyway.

But before he could chant a spell and scheme any further, he suddenly heard a girl scream. One of his friends was in danger! Did they find a beast monster or something? Panicking, he dashed towards the sound as fast as he could with magic.

”Nyla!! ” He yelled, running towards a cliff edge where his friend was hanging from.

”Help! ” Nyla screamed with tears in her eyes. She was pale and scared, and was already having a hard time holding on to the edge. ”Help me, please! ”

Her fingers were already numb from the strain and were starting to slipp off until the boy grabbed her arms, stopping her from falling. He casted a quick strengthening charm before pulling her up from the edge.

”Nyla, are you okay? ” He asked, concerned for his friend. She was trembling in his arms. She tried to push him away without meeting his gaze, but he held onto her, afraid that she might hurt herself again. ”Nyla, whats going on? What happened? ”

”This happened. ” A snide, cold voice rang in his ear. A voice he recognized. Someone suddenly yanked Nyla away out of his arms, another person restraining him from the back. Just as he turned, he was pushed over the cliff and barely managed to catch on to the edge.

His friends, two other boys his age looked down at him with looks of malice on their faces. ”Geltrut? Selio? What are you doing? ” He yelled in confusion, looking at his friends who made no attempt to help him. ”What is the meaning of this? Help me up! This isn funny! ”

”Not today. ” The older one of the boys, Geltrut said with a smirk. ”Weve decided its time for you to go. ”

”What? Geltrut, stop kidding and pull me up! ”

”You still don get it do you? ” Geltrut laughed a horrible sounding laugh for a kid. ”Once you are gone, the bloodline of your family will diminish and my father will be able to take over the nobles wealth. Its essential you must die today before you are accepted in the magic academy. ”

”What? Y-you can do this to me, Geltrut! We- we
e friends! ”

”No. ” Geltrut replied, looking at Selio beside him and then looking at the boy on the edge of death. ”No we aren . We were never your friends. We only pretended to be because my father told us to get close to you. So that he could overthrow your family from the inside. ”

”We-? ” The boy asked, the sudden realization dawning on him. ”No… Even you, Nyla? You all lied to me? ”

He looked at Nyla who was standing a few meters away to say something or deny it. To say it wasn true. But Nyla only bit her tongue and silently looked away in sorrow, refusing to meet her friends desperate eyes.

”You always told me you wanted to be a hero, didn you? ” Geltrut asked with a spiteful smirk. He and Selio stepped forward, directly infront of his friends finger gripping onto the edge. ”Well nows your chance. When Nyla slipped off the cliff, you sacrificed your life in a heroic attempt to save her from falling. How does that story sound? Pretty good right? ”

”Geltrut- You wouldn - ”

”Long live the hero. ” Geltrut jeered before Selio kicked his hands off and the boy fell off the steep rocky slope with a scream.

———

And just like that, I died before my life could begin again, betrayed by my own friends. Dying twice might sounds cool after surviving, but the pain was excruciating. However, I didn have time to think about everything that had happened.

The next thing I knew, I had been reincarnated again. This time, it was into a sci-fi world of the future. There were flying vehicles, space jets, giant mechs, incredibly advanced technology and complicated concepts that defied the laws of quantum physics.

Perhaps this was where my real adventure starts, I thought. Perhaps everything that had happened until now was just the backstory. Perhaps I would become an unstoppable fighter or a genious engineer that would save the galaxy from destruction.

As usual, my life here was very short-lived again. So short in fact, that its not even worth going into third person POV for.

I died in a year after being born in a chemical explosion when my home planet was sabotaged and invaded by robots.

Why did I keep dying? I wondered. Why couldn I just enjoy life? Was I cursed with bad luck?

I didn have time to think of answers as I was instantly reincarnated into another world again, but it became pretty apparent later.
