It was a falling piece of luggage that woke Jackson from his restless nap in a cold sweat. He had been nervous about this flight to the Bahamas from the beginning since a bad experience in his childhood left him with a strong love of touching the ground. He felt a gentle touch on his right shoulder and turned to face one of his two childhood friends and the one who organized this whole trip, Dave.

”Jacky, are you ok? ”

”You know that nickname irritates me, you asshole. ” Jackson moaned, rubbing his temples as he tried to shake off the brain fog he still felt from being awoken so quickly.

”Knock it off Dave. You know how hard it was for him to even get onto this flight in the first place. ” This time it was Sabrina who spoke. She turned to Jackson, her scorn-filled expression turning to concern. ”Just hang in there Jack. The little plane-screen thing in front of us says we only have a couple more minutes left now. ”

This particular plane had each row made up of three seats since it was the cheapest flight Dave had been able to buy. All three friends sat together, with Jackson in the middle and Dave next to the window. He had insisted that it was a fair reward for organizing the entire trip, and a halfhearted protest from Sabrina had done little to change this particular belief, and Jackson had not cared.

”Sebi, don you glare at me like that. I was attempting to use frustration to distract him until we land and he can finally touch grass again. Better mad at me than scared in general, right? ”

”Thats not up to you to decide, Dave. Even if you were correct, you need to be more considerate before you… ”

”Would both of you stop? My biggest concern right now is getting off of this stupid plane and relaxing with a nice YouTube video at the resort Dave booked. I appreciate both of your help, now shut up and let me have anxiety. ”

The plane began its landing procedure. The trio gathered their belongings and began preparing in general, with Jackson, in particular, trying to focus despite the anxiety he felt from each and every jolt of the airplane. After a particularly heavy instance of turbulence, he suddenly recalled part of a dream he had during his nap just now, one that he had forgotten about. In this dream, he had been flying above a vast plain, but there had been no machine to help him, nor any of the usual anxiety. All he had felt, at least in that particular part of the dream, was the twin emotions of freedom and purpose. Jackson couldn remember where he was going or how he was flying, but at least it was a good dream.

Maybe it was an omen of a successful vacation?
