Brutalis The crucible of life

Ethan woke up, but he felt odd. He tried to look around, but all he saw was darkness. Then a voice spoke up. ”Ah, finally awake. Goood! We had better get a move on. Otherwise we will become lunch for something else, and I cannot have that, way too much time was invested into you. A cackling voice stated.

Ethan moved quickly and spun around looking for the source of the voice ” Who are you?! Where are you?! ” Ethan yelled with a start. But all that came out was chittering. ” What? What happened to me?? ” That was when his eyes adjusted and he could see all around him all at once ” Compound vision? ”

Then Ethan took a few steps,with a start he realized that he had not two legs, not three, not even 4… but 8… Thats right Ethan was a spider, not a very big one. At least in this world… he was about 3 meters long and 4 meters wide. Still a newborn as well. It would take some time for him to grow.

”Ah, now you get it. Thats right you are a spider, you also must have guessed that you are no longer on Earth. Otherwise you would not be a giant spider. ” The voice cackled, obviously pleased with how things had turned out.

” You had better get a move on, you are the last of your brood. The rest of them were eaten while still in their eggs. Whatever had gotten the munchies must have gotten full before it got to you. ”

The voice acted like it did not know anything, but it obviously was holding something back.

”Where are you? Why can I not see you? ” Ethan asked as he picked a direction that seemed to have more light as he got closer to the light the fit became smaller and smaller as he realized he was crawling out of some sort of den.

Once he reached the light, it blinded him for a bit as he looked around. With his new vision he couldn see that far from a distance but he could see movement and 360 vision all around him. He realized that he was in a jungle, giant birds were flying around and smaller creatures jumped tree to tree their forms flitting about. The trees were massive, easily towering into the sky and easily hundreds of feet across per tree.

”Where the hell am I? ” Ethan thought to himself as he surveyed the surrounding area. ” Okay, I need to focus my mind and get moving. I need to find shelter and hopefully food. ”

Just then he heard a chuckle in his mind. ” Finally you get the picture, allow me to… open your mind. ” A great pain started in Ethans head! It felt like it was splitting in half! ” OH god! ” Ethan slowly crawled to a puddle and looked into it he saw a pulsating growth on his head with small black tendrils shooting in and out as the growth pulsated.

Then as soon as it began, it stopped. All of the tendrils retracted into the growth and that growth hardened into a sharp horn that pulsed and throbbed.

” What in the ever living god did you do to me?! ” Ethan screamed but all that came out was chittering. The voice spoke with a smile ” I activated your latent genes and abilities. ”Now you can view me and we can chat and I can set you straight. ” the voice said with a chuckle, Ethan could actually hear it smiling.

Just as the voice said that a form appeared looking like a floating humanoid with no face and exuding a dark aura. ” I am your guide and your prison guard, you
e on a leash and Im your owner capiche? ” The creature said with his eyes smirking. ”Now walk and talk, cmon chop chop by the way the name is Hiamel ” Hiamel said as Ethan was basically pulled along by a psychic leash.

As they walked Hiamel filled Ethan in on exactly what was going on, he had explained that Ethan had been transported to the world of Brutalis, a well… brutal world of constantly evolving monsters where you had to fight tooth and nail to survive and grow. But more importantly get the artifact ” Diablos cube ” This is guarded by the church of light, they will guard it with their life and will kill anything trying to get their claws on it, as they know it would mean the end of existence if the dark god gets his hands on it.

Ethan started at this ” I cannot let him get that artifact. If he gets it, he will kill everything and everyone. If it is the last thing I do, I will stop him. ” Ethan thought to himself.

The upper echelon of the church are basically gods among men and will not hesitate to smite anything that tries to stop them from holding this world in their grasp and keeping the power that they have.

Ethan is currently on the farthest reaches of the world of Brutalis, in the beginner area so to speak. To give some context the world of Brutalis is shaped like a giant bowel, the furthest reaches at the top where the center would be at the bottom, the further you move towards the center the deeper you go, eventually getting to the center where you go down further into the center of the world, not many have made it this far and know what is there.
