”About the door, ” she paused before she continued, ”didn you read the notice I posted on the window? ”

Amber moved from her thoughts and stared at the back of the woman with a small frown on her face. ”What notice? ” she asked.

The womans finger stopped trailing across the books and she pulled out a book. Turning around to walk to a table, she replied, ”Mind the door. ”

When she noticed that Amber didn get what she said, she explained, ”Just like the way it is posted on a glass door. Mind the glass-Mind the door. ”

”Oh! ” Amber said when she finally got what the woman was trying to say. ”I must have missed seeing that. ”

The woman raised her head to look at Amber properly. ”What did you see then? ” she asked and Amber arched her brows as she tried to recollect what she saw at the glass and she parted her lips to speak. ”Let the books take you into the world of the unknown. ”

The woman stared at Amber and said, ”If you can read that then you must be here for something. But from the look of it, it seems that thing brought you here. ”

”What thing? ” asked Amber.

”Your curiosity, ” the woman replied even though that was not what she meant.

”Oh yes, I was just going to check some books and by the way, I saw that your shop stood out from the rest of the shops here so…, ” Amber trailed off, wondering if there was actual sense in what she was saying because she was also confused as to why the appearance of the bookshop drew her attention in.

”Yes, ” the woman agreed. ”It is old but rare, compared to the rest of the shops here. ”

”Maam, ” Amber called her attention, ”Do you know what time it is, please? ” she was more concerned on how she would be able to reach home in time without her mother worrying about her.

”This is past seven, ” she replied her and when she noticed the worry on her face, she said, ”Be at ease. There is nothing to worry about. ”

Like a spell, Amber suddenly felt relaxed and she walked to one of the shelves before pulling out a book. A frown came to form on her face and she pulled out few other books before placing them back in its place. Turning her body to look at the woman, she said to her, ”Your library is for cookbooks, flower characteristics and Animal instincts? ”

”Mm, what were you expecting? ” the woman answered, not looking at her and Amber scoffed.

”I thought you might have some fictional books with some genres like Teen, Young Adult, Billionaire and Romance but I can find any of that right now. ” Amber groaned when she checked the next shelve and saw that it was the same.

When Amber turned her body to look at the woman, she saw her staring at her and she wondered if she had said anything wrong for her to look at her that way.

She stood straight and picked on her fingers. ”What? ” she asked with an innocent voice.

The woman tilted her head to the side a bit and asked, ”You are not human, are you? ”

Amber face-palmed and let out a sigh before replying, ”Why do you keep asking me that? ”

”My door would not have let you in if you were human. My working hours are from twelve to five in the evening. Any other time aside from that, no human is allowed in here except for the other beings. Also, that explains why you didn see the notice. Mere humans can see what you said you saw and my books you referred to as cookbooks, flower characteristics and animal instincts are actually spell books meant for witches, ” the woman explained without batting an eye.

Amber blinked at her words with her lips slightly parted as she tried to take in what the woman had just said. Could that mean that she herself is not human and that was the reason she asked if she was human?

”Wh—what do you mean by other beings and spell books? ” Amber asked the woman and also wondered if she was really a witch.

”By other beings, I am referring to the night creatures_ Vampires, werewolves, witches, demons, reapers, ghouls and all of them. To clear your doubts, yes, I am a witch and you can call me Hazel. Nice to meet you too, Amber, ” Hazel offered her a smile and Ambers eyes widen.

”H-How do you know my name? ” Ambers forehead crinkled with her brows curved. She had not expected the woman to call her by her name because she has not told her yet.

”Do you doubt the part where I said I was a witch? ” Hazel clicked her tongue and walked over to where Amber stood.

Amber stared into Hazels brown eyes and asked warily, ”What do you feed on? ”

Hazel laughed in sniffs and the corner of her lips pulled up into a smile. She leaned closer to Amber and whispered to her, ”Have you suddenly found out that you have become my prey tonight? ”

Amber felt chills ran down her spine and it raised goosebumps on her skin. She gulped down nothing when Hazel moved her body to stand face to face with her and suddenly, she saw her laughing which made her confused.

When the laugh died down, she heard Hazel say to her in a relaxing voice, ”Do not worry. I am not a bad witch and I am not going to hurt you. I may look thirty with a skin of twenty, but I am way more than that. ”

Amber felt embarrassed that the woman knew what she was thinking about all along and she raised her brows a bit before asking, ”How old are you then? ”

”To answer that, I have been around for a very long time. If I tell you I am 400, to humans, they can see it as just 15 years or so. ”

No way! Amber thought and her eyes rose. ”You have been alive for that long yet you are… so young, ” she said with surprise in her eyes.

Hazel chuckled and said, ”So young and beautiful is it. Well, do not be surprised because I am not that old. For generations, weve had accounts of some oldest witches who have lived up to a thousand years. ”

”How is that even possible? ” Amber asked, curious to know.

Hazel pursed her lips as she looked at Ambers curious eyes before she said to her, ”Come, let me tell you a story but before that, lets make you comfortable. ”

Amber followed Hazel as she led her to a chair and ordered her to sit which she did. Her eyes fell on the necklace and she asked, ”Your necklace, what is it made of? I haven seen any like that. ”

Hazel touched the necklace on her neck and caressed the stone. ”This is what we witches call a black stone. It is made by mixing different elixirs together. It is for protection but each black stone has different functions. ”

Amber listened to what Hazel said and she was surprised to learn that such things exist. Like most of the students in her class, she had doubt Mr. Evans story about Vampires and other beings but never had she thought that she would be spending her night, talking to a witch who has lived for unimaginable years without getting old.
