Black Lilies

4 - Afternoons And Dimples

{Lilys current world is starting to feel illusory to her. But, illusory or not, she can never run away from her problems. Especially when most of them are so close to her.}

_

A comfortable but eternity-long silence filled the room.

Lily sat laid back on her affluent and soft celadon-colored pillows staring at the space, while Remy laid beside her, his whole body now resting on the bed.

Remy speculated that whatever was bothering her, she had yet to come to terms with it all. She needed time, and he would gladly wait for as long as possible. Even if it took all day, he had no problem waiting, as he needed a bit of rest anyways. He had only been assisting in the wedding preparations, but he felt as if he was the sole organizer!

Remy glanced at her current self and inwardly thought to himself,

Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez would surely forfeit if they saw her like this.

Her parents had been waiting and planning exuberantly for the wedding, one might think it was their own.

Maybe it was because their one and only daughter was marrying into such a well-known and prestigious family.

Remy internally scoffed at the thought. He couldn believe that in this age and time, there was still such kind of people.

Lily on the other hand was still trying to decipher whether all the things that happened had been horrid nightmares or not. She had no proof of any of it being real and was slowly starting to doubt.

And the dark cloaked uncanny stranger… Why did she feel like she knew him somehow? And how did he even know her name? And most importantly, had he just been a fragment of her imagination?

Remy was just about to relinquish to his exhausted body when something caught his eye.

Or, more specifically, the morning sun peered through the small space in between the light yellow curtains, reflecting a small object nuzzled in the small space between them.

The small glint of light caught his half-closed eyes, causing his eyebrows to knot in confusion. He stared cluelessly at the unfamiliar object, its appearance alone completely dumbfounded him.

He was more than sure hed never seen Lily with it before. Maybe someone had gifted it to her?

Remy was also spell bonded by the circular rows of numbers that could be seen on the object. Trying to read or comprehend them made his head hurt and he looked away, turning to Lily.

”Uhm, Lily? ” He voiced making the girl turn to him questioningly.

”What is that? ” He inquired glancing at the heart-shaped thing.

Lilys gaze moved from Remy to the direction his eyes had skimmed over and her heart almost stopped.

Her eyes grew wide as saucers in shock, her breath quickening, eyes watering, and vision blurring.

”No…It can be… ” She half-whispered in a fitful and shaky voice.

Remy turned in surprise hearing words that came from her. But what shocked him the most, was perceiving the state she was in. A lot of questions popped up in his mind, but he knew better than to ask them at the moment.

He watched as Lily slowly reached for the object, her hands shaking slightly, and tears streaming down her rosy cheeks.

The moment she picked up the heart-shaped clock, her resolve completely vanished and she broke down in a mess of tears and loud whimpers. All the anguish and helplessness she had felt came crashing back to her.

Remy almost immediately but gently took her in his arms, hugging her like his life depended on it. To say he was shook wouldve been an understatement. In all the six years hed known her, he had never—and I mean NEVER— seen her cry before. She had always been the joy and sunshine to almost everyone around her.

His system had been in shock after seeing her look so… helpless and wounded.

Lily buried herself deeper into Remys arms, as he gently caressed her back.

Crying was the only thing she could do now. She wasn exactly sure WHY she was crying though.

Maybe it was because she couldn bring herself to infer or cope with what was happening. Or maybe she was just in shock.

For all she knew, she couldve just been losing her mind… Maybe her parents being murdered right in front of her had taken an impact on her mental health?

She sobbed harder. She had no idea what was substantial anymore. Her life at that moment felt delusive.

Remy looked down at the damsel in his arms, his heart clenching at the sight of her fragile self. Her sobs had died down, and her breathing was now even, as she had somehow fallen asleep.

A single tear rolled down from her still closed eye, which Remy promptly wiped with the back of his right hand.

He glanced at the crystal heart-shaped clock, still held tightly in her grasp.

He wondered what it was or what it meant to her since it had caused her to break down like that.

However soon enough the early morning birds songs lured him into a deep, much-needed slumber, his arms still securely wrapped around Lily.

”Is he really still sleeping? ” Lily said gazing down at Remy, who seemed to still be deep asleep.

”I just know Valeries been overworking him. ” She sighed, bending down to tie up her white-colored Vessis.

She had no idea why, but ever since shed woken up that afternoon, shed felt like her old happy self again. She had taken a cold refreshing shower and had dressed up quite enthusiastically. She wore a stunning see-through dark-blue top, black chiffon pants and a black leather jacket was simply a must. It was fall and the weather was leaning a bit on the frigid side.

Should I wake him? Or should I just go with Eve? She thought looking intently at the fellow who was peacefully asleep.

In the end, she decided to go alone. She convinced herself that although Eve was a decent friend, she —most of the time— couldn keep her mouth shut. Lily didn need anyone tarnishing her surprise.

Remy on the other hand would definitely be vindictive for not being included in this scheme of hers, but she could talk her way out of it so it was fine.

She surveyed the hallway, making sure, and hoping that no one was around. It was already two PM and she prayed that everyone was having their lunch or busy with something.

She now realized that it had been a disastrous idea, to stay over at her parents mansion before her wedding day. Heck, no time wouldve been the right time to dwell there anyway!

She slowly but carefully tiptoed through the hallways, formulating to head down one of the large double staircases. She had barely made it through the first step when—

”Why are you sneaking around in the daytime? ” Lily heard a dreadfully familiar voice speak behind her.
