She smiled and went to sit down in the chair in front of his desk.

”Today is your first day so I wouldn want to overwork you. You have run a background check on my family background and gotten some paperwork, right? ” he asked Dee who nodded and opened her bag to produce the documents she had printed back at the office.

”Here is the little I could get from the public sources, ” she said, dropping the documents on the desk. He picked them up and sorted through them while smiling. ”You surely did great work here. Okay, since you have this, I would send something to your email which you can go work with. ” he clicked on his laptop and then after some time, he looked up at her. ”Ive sent it. Check your gadget, ” he pointed to Dee who brought out her phone and clicked on her mail, and saw the document he just sent to her. She skimmed through it and looked up.

”Wow. But this isn found in any_ sorry never mind. ” she waved off while smiling, recollecting she was talking to the senior Rossi. He smiled and relaxed back on his seat, entwining his hand in front of him.

”I know what you were about to say, Ms. Sparks. How come these documents are not contained in the folders of the public investigation department, right? ” she nodded and bit into her lower lip. How could she even think that? He was a public figure and not everything about him was supposed to be out in the open especially as he liked most of his lifes activities being kept in the dark.

”Its alright to think or ask me though. It is a well-known fact that I like my privacy. The reputation of my company and family name is one aspect I would like to keep as clean as possible. That doesn mean shits don go down, Ms. Sparks. It just means I like to keep everything down while I can. Unfortunately, my son does not share in the same phenomena with me. ” he gritted out the last part. Dee shifted in her seat, not knowing what to say when it came to Andrès flair for fanfare.

”But that would soon come to an end, though. I need to make sure he doesn destroy what Ive worked so hard for with his youthful exuberance. So I think its time for him to get a wife. That way he would have something to concentrate on. He had gotten too comfortable with all these… ” he motioned around the room. Dees eyes widened. André married? That would be the last thing he would be thinking about now. If only he knew the plans his father has for him.

”Does he know_about the marriage? ” she said her thoughts aloud.

”No. Not yet. I just thought about it today. I should probably try to hook him up with the daughter of one of my business associates. ” he confided in her and she wondered why he was telling her in the first place. Because you are the damned revamper, Dee. That is what you are employed to do. What he is saying would come in handy, she counseled herself.

She cleared her throat and Lukas looked at her.

”No offense, Sir, ” she said while forcing a smile, ”…But don you think that should be his decision? I mean marriage is not something you just force on people and expect them to complement each other like some Frisbee cheese to the hamburger. ” She asked, rolling her eyes internally at her lame allusion.

He shook his head and sat up from the chair to place his head on the desk. ”We have given him more time to make that decision for himself Miss Sparks. Hes 30 for crying out loud! Hes no longer some wimpy kid that needs to suckle his mothers breast. ” he said in a low tone, his gaze fixed on her. She was fidgeting now from the hardness in his eyes as he said the words. She could feel the coldness as if he was seeing into her soul.

She nodded and looked away.

”I understand your point, Ms. Sparks… He needs to find his wife. We don need to force anyone on him. Yes, I get all that which is why I would introduce the girl to him and give him time to bond with her. ” he looked away towards one of the chests containing bounds of legal ledgers.

”Okay Sir, if you put it that way I think its preferable, ” she acquiesced with him and pulled out her laptop to place on the desk.

”Since you would be working with us for a very long time, you would be sharing my office with me then. So I would have Leonard bring in another desk at that corner… ” he pointed towards the left part of the office- ”…so you can have room to yourself to do whatever you want. ” he paused and watched her for a while thinking about something that sprung up in his mind. ” You can still work at any part of the house you want. Personally, sometimes I prefer working by the poolside, ” he said and stood from his desk and strode to the door. ”I would be back, make yourself comfortable. Simon should be here any minute with some articles he roughed out from some blogs online, ” he told her before turning the knob of the door and pulling it open. She looked back towards him as he closed the door gently after him.

She turned back towards the document in her lap and settled to read it properly. The heading bore the seal of the United States Department of public relations meaning they were authentic and highly classified. She skimmed through the pages but her mind kept wandering back to what the man had told her about arranging a marriage for Andrè and instantly pitied him. She didn know much about arranged marriages but one thing was sure, to her, anything that doesn revolve around love was bullshit and she doesn think that it would work in the first place.

”There you are, Ms. Sparks. Early-bird, huh? Wise decision, ” the Secretary called as he came through the door bearing his signature smile. She smiled back and greeted him as he came to her to lay a chaste kiss on the back of her palm. ”Permit me to compliment your great beauty this morning, Ms. ” he singled out in a soft voice. She smiled and pulled her hand away.

”Thank you, Simeon. I am deeply flattered. ” she touched her chest. He smiled again and occupied the second seat close to her ”What are you up to this morning? ” he asked and looked into her document. ”Okay, this was from the USDPR right? ” he asked and she nodded looking up at him.

”Why does he work so hard in hiding all these? I saw so many things in the library that they had managed to squeeze out without his knowledge. Why would he hide them? I mean who isn proud of all the inputs they
e putting into developing a country that isn even their fatherland? ” she opined and clicked at a particular insert in her laptop which she showed to Simeon. ”Look at this. He contributed to the building of the ASUSP… ” she said more in disbelief, ”Do you know how long we walked to get all the information on all the donors? Not knowing the major donor was staring right in front of us. This is not right, you know, ” she whined, relaxing back on the chair. ”When I was carrying out my research on him, I had been flummoxed by most of the information I got, but you see this… ” she pointed at her screen… ”This is beyond me. This one is the major blow to my face. In my entire life as a journalist, I have never been made to feel like I didn know what I was doing. I couldn smell something like this out. ” she exhaled and brushed her hair behind her ear.

”Well, Ms. Sparks. The only thing I would tell you is this. Luka Rossi is a man of privacy and then again, some things are better left in the books, ” he said with mirth in his eyes. He pulled his hands together.

”That is the lamest smart line Ive heard today and its just starting. ”

”Then, wait till you hear more of my lines, ” he careened and stood up. He went to one of the shelves and produced a letter which he brought back and dropped in front of her. She picked up and checked out the content but couldn make any sense of what was inside.

”What is this for? ” she asked, still sampling the pages.

”Keep going woman, you seem an impatient type. ” she rolled her eyes and continued, and then her eyes landed on the next page containing the statement about Lukass investment into the production of the next drug that would be used in the treatment of malaria in Africa.

”The drug is still being tested, though. I am sure the first dose should be out by September. ” he skimmed his head and told her.

Dee continued looking at the page dumbly, still finding the information overwhelming. The door suddenly flung open and in trotted Andrè in his smart navy blue three-piece sleek suit. The moment he entered the room, this air of superiority spread through as he looked about the place looking for his Dad.

”Where is my Dad? ” he asked no one in particular. Dee recovered from her shock at seeing him and looked at his fathers desk too as though she just walked in with him.

”I think he is upstairs. Didn see him when I came in, ” Simeon told him and Andrè nodded and stalked towards them. ” So workday huh, Ms. Sparks? ” he stopped close to her and bent down to whisper in her ear, ”Don you think the gown is too revealing? I wouldn mind, but then, my Dad is too faithful to his woman. And how he does that, I couldn say. ”

Dee blushed crimson, her face flying towards Simeon to know if he heard what Andrè had said but it appeared he was engrossed in what he was reading, not to notice. She looked back at Andrè who had a smirk with his plumpy lips lifted to the side giving him a salacious look.

”I would appreciate it if you would go ** yourself. Unlike you, your old man has his boner disciplined, ” she flung at his face.
